Although we tend to be attracted to color we can be sharpened by the beauty of nature. Void of what most consider color, black and white are shades. And there are shades of grey in between. 50? Hmmm, well 50 shades of grey was notorious for figuratively describing the many moods of Christian Grey but how many shades can we as humans see? There is no set number as we are each unique in our ability to perceive the shades. But what we can see is the beauty of a still black and white photograph no matter the subject in nature.

There is something serene and calming about the detail of a black and white photo. There is something exciting and motivating about the colors in nature. I’ve been blessed to spend most of my childhood to late adult years in the outdoors. I have seen some amazing things and some I was fortunate to capture by camera and some will forever be ingrained in my visual memories. I have received many life lessons from nature so I wholeheartedly recommend considering photography as a hobby and a diversion from life’s routines.

It seems there are as many cameras as colors. Could that be possible and if so what is the best camera for garden and landscape photography?

Let’s start at the very beginning. A very good place to start. When you read, you begin with A-B-C. When you sing, you begin with Do-Re-Mi. When you snap (a picture) you begin with L-C-M. The right light, right composition, and right moment.

Light refers to exposure. For the hobby photographer this means making sure the picture is not over or under exposed. This sounds complicated but there are many options for learning how to conquer digital photography. Digital photography lessons are readily available online. You will learn about the different types of cameras and their accessories. You will have instruction in maintaining and caring for your camera. You will learn photography terminology, equipment basics, photography applications and theory. Digital photography lessons are great for the beginner or the professional photographer looking to find new ideas and techniques.
